DePaul Snaps BG Win Streak, 7-0

Feb. 13, 2005

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Bowling Green State University tennis team saw a three-match winning streak come to an end Sunday (Feb. 13), as the Falcons suffered a 7-0 defeat at the hands of DePaul University. The non-conference dual match was held at the Lakeshore Athletic Club.

With the loss, the Falcons fall to 6-2 in dual-match play this season.

The Blue Demons swept the three doubles matches to take the opening point, then won all six singles contests as well. It marked the first time in eight dual matches in the 2004-05 season that BGSU did not win at least one match in singles or doubles.

Freshman Jenna Nussbaum came the closest to victory for the Brown and Orange, winning her opening set over DU's Brenda Leung at the fourth singles flight. But, Leung rallied to win the second set, then captured the super-tiebreaker to take the match.

DePaul's singles lineup featured two natives of Bulgaria and one player each from Hungary, Serbia, Slovakia and Canada. The eight-woman roster has just one native of the United States, freshman Clare Chmiel of South Bend, Ind., who did not see action in the match.

The Falcons will return to the road next weekend, heading to Milwaukee, Wis., for a pair of matches. BGSU will face Iowa in neutral-site action Saturday (Feb. 19), before taking on host Marquette the following day. BG then returns home to face Cincinnati on Feb. 25, beginning an eight-match homestand.
