DePaul Blanks BG, 7-0

Feb. 14, 2003

CHICAGO, Ill. - Host DePaul University won at every flight to post a 7-0 victory over the Bowling Green State University women's tennis team Friday night (Feb. 14). The dual match was held at the Lakeshore Athletic Club.

With the victory, DePaul improves to 6-5 on the season, while the Falcons drop to 2-3 in dual-match play.

The Blue Demons opened the match by capturing all three doubles contests. The closest match came at the third flight, where junior Gaby Coello and sophomore Laura Kokinda battled DePaul's duo of Rachel Dybas and Megan Stewart to a narrow 8-6 result.

In singles play, the hosts won all six matches in straight sets. Freshman Heidi Romer, a native of Long Grove, Ill., extended DU's Karen Falduto to a tiebreaker in the first set of their sixth-flight contest before succumbing.

Other singles competitors for the Falcons included sophomore Susie Schoenberger at the top flight, senior Alyson Gabel at the second level, and Coello, sophomore Cameron Benjamin and Kokinda at flights three through five, respectively.

Juniors Lisa Maloney, like Romer an Illinois native, and Jessica Johnson competed in doubles in the match.

The Falcons will complete the weekend in the Windy City with a Saturday (Feb. 15) match against the University of Illinois at Chicago.
