BGSU Hires Kevin Darling as Assistant Swimming Coach

Nov. 20, 2001

Bowling Green, Ohio - Kevin Darling, a 1998 Bowling Green State University graduate and former Falcon swimmer, has been hired as the new assistant swimmng coach. Darling was the team captain for Bowling Green his junior and senior years and was named MVP his senior year. He was part of the school record setting 200 freestyle relay during the 1998-98 season (1:22.92). The current record, set two years after Darling's graduation, is only one-one hundredth of a second faster (1:22.91) than his team's record-breaking swim.

Darling, a Public Relations major and sociology minor, comes from the manager trainee program at Fifth Third Bank. He is a former assistant coach and swimmer for the Bowling Green Swim Club under head coach Gary Layne. He was also part of the Coney Island Aquanauts ('92, '93, '94, '98) and a volunteer assistant coach at Amelia High School (1999-2000) in Cincinnati, Ohio.

"Kevin Darling brings great enthusiasm and passion to our program," said BGSU head coach Randy Julian. "He was the men's team captain at BGSU for two years and was well-respected by his peers and coaches. He laid himself on the line every time he raced. He loves to win. Having been a student-athlete at BG, he can relate to the recruit the great educational and athletic opportunities that our university has to offer the high school student-athlete."

The next meet for Bowling Green is Dec. 6-8 at the Notre Dame Invitational. The next home meet for the Falcons is Jan. 25 against Findlay.
