Falcons Lead Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced its 2004-05 women's swimming Academic All-MAC team Tuesday, as voted by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions. A total of 27 student-athletes were names to the team.

Bowling Green led all schools with five members, Erin Dilkes, Jessica Guinness, Kara Ohngren, Dana Schultz, and Amy Smith.

*Amy Smith is now a two-time Academic All-MAC honoree.

During the MAC Championships, Kara Ohngren, who was named to the All-MAC Second Team, placed fourth in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:02.75. Another member of the All-MAC Second Team, Dana Schultz, placed third in the 200 butterfly with a finishing time of 2:04.52, and a third place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.99. Erin Dilkes was the top qualifier in the 100 breaststroke during preliminaries and came up with a third place finish in the finals with a time of 1:05.06. Jessica Guinnes, along with Dana Schultz, was a member of the 200 free relay team which broke a school record with a time of 1:35.21.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
