CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University student-athlete Lindsay Heimrich (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) has been named to the 2004 Academic All-Mid-American Conference Softball Team, it was announced Tuesday (May 25). Heimrich, a sophomore, earns the honor in her first year of eligibility for the award. The team is the result of voting by the league's faculty athletic representatives.

Entering the spring, 2004, semester, Heimrich maintained a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average as a journalism major.

Heimrich finished her sophomore season with a .293 batting average, ranking third on the team. One of two Falcons to start all 64 games, she finished second on the team in doubles (13) and fielding percentage (.979), tied for second in RBI (29) and was third in runs (21), hits (58) and total bases (83).

A first baseman/pitcher, she had a 5-4 record in the circle, having allowed opponents to hit just .208 against her. Heimrich had an earned-run average of 1.61 on the season. Her five wins included a no-hitter against Oakland, as well as a victory in relief against Western Michigan in the MAC Tournament. In the latter contest, she helped her own cause by hitting a sixth-inning grand slam.

Heimrich was named to the All-MAC Second Team, and also has earned Academic All-District First-Team honors this spring.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.

The Falcons of head coach Leigh Ross-Shaw finished the season with an overall record of 34-30. BGSU, the sixth seed for the MAC Tournament, rebounded from a tourney-opening loss to win the next five games and capture the title. The 2004 team made the fourth NCAA Regional appearance in school history.
