Kasey Freeman: BGSU Scholar-Athlete Of The Week

Nov. 12, 2003

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Kasey Freeman is the Bowling Green State University Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Freeman, a senior on the BGSU women's soccer team, helped the eighth-seeded Falcons reach the championship match of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.

Freeman, a native of Middletown, Ohio (Edgewood HS), anchored a defensive corps which helped the Falcons to a 2-1 win on the road vs. #1 Eastern Michigan in the quarterfinals last Tuesday (Nov. 4). That match marked the first time in MAC Tournament history that the lowest seed had beaten the highest seed. Freeman started all 23 matches this season, one of only three Falcons to do so. She played in a total of 75 career matches, making 70 starts. Freeman is only the second Falcon in school history to be a part of three teams that advanced to the MAC Tournament. She is the only player in BGSU history that was on both of BGSU's teams that reached the title game, in 2000 and 2003. Freeman started the final 64 matches of her career.

Freeman, an apparel merchandising major, maintains a 3.22 cumulative grade point average.

BGSU ended the 2003 season with an overall record of 8-12-3, and the Falcons went 5-5-2 in MAC play. Freeman and co-captain Carrie Richards are the lone players on the 26-woman team to have completed their eligibility.
