Trey Bien! Falcons Set New NCAA Three-Point Record

April 17, 2000

The NCAA has released the final 1999-2000 Division I women's basketball statistics, and Bowling Green State University is listed in a number of categories. As a team, the Falcons led the entire nation in two categories. BG set a new NCAA record for three-point field goals made per game, with an average of 9.25. That average outdistanced Iowa State's 9.09 average. Prior to this season, the 1993-94 South Carolina team was the only team to date to average more than nine successful treys per game, with 9.19.

The Falcons, in 28 contests this season, obliterated the school record by making a total of 259 three-pointers. The "old" school mark of 135 successful three-pointers in a season was set just last winter. BGSU finished the 1999-2000 season with an overall record of 11-17 and an 8-8 Mid-American Conference slate.

Additionally, BGSU led the nation in free-throw percentage, having converted at a school-record success rate of .774 this winter.

Individually, junior Angie Farmer (Wayland, Mich./Union) ranked among the national leaders in three-point field goals made per game. Farmer, who averaged 2.78 treys per game, tied for 13th in the nation, having made a school-record 78 in 28 contests.

Sophomore Francine Miller (Kalida, Ohio/Kalida) was among the nation's leaders in two categories. She tied for 14th in free-throw percentage, and was 16th in three-point field-goal percentage. Miller finished the year with a school-record .453 rate from behind the arc and a percentage of .856 from the charity stripe.

Senior Jaymee Wappes (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) finished her fourth season wearing the Brown and Orange ranked 24th in the nation in assists. Wappes averaged 5.86 assists this season, totalling 164 helpers in the 28 games.
