Men's Soccer Opens Spring Season

April 4, 2005

DAYTON, Ohio - The Bowling Green Men's Soccer team opened spring season play with two matches at the University of Dayton. The Falcons took on the Flyers of Dayton followed by a match against the University of Louisville.

The Falcons held Dayton to 1-0 at the half but were unable to stop them resulting in a 2-0 loss.

The coaching staff felt that this was a game to get the kinks out. It was the first time they were able to play full 11 v. 11 games since the fall season.

The second game proved to be more promising for the Falcons as they posted a 4-4 draw against the University of Louisville. At the end of the first half goalkeeper Brandon Decker kept Louisville to their 1-0 lead by stopping a penalty kick and giving the Falcons an opportunity to come back.

In the second half Paul Seip connected on a penalty kick drawn my Alec Perea to get the ball rolling for Bowling Green. Perea continued to help the Falcons come back as he assisted Fancisco Sanchez on his goal to put the Falcons within two.

Despite Louisville increasing their lead, the Falcons kept the pressure on and continued to fight back.

Bowling Green was down 4-2 with just seven minutes remaining until Seip came back to score his second goal of the game and to decrease the gap to only one. Another goal by Sanchez would tie the game and give the Falcons the momentum to hold Louisville, ending the game at 4-4.

The Falcons will continue their spring season with two games on Saturday, April 16th. At 1:00 p.m. Bowling Green will play Ohio State followed by a 2:00 match against Michigan State. Both games are scheduled to be played at the Bowling Green Soccer Complex.
