Men's Soccer Falls At NIU, 1-0

DeKalb, Ill. -

The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team lost its Mid-American Conference opener, 1-0 at Northern Illinois on Friday.

The lone goal of the match was scored by Huskie Andrew Conti at the 82:02 mark from eight yards out off an assist from Nick Park.

BG played down a man from the 25:54 mark after Adam Erhard received a red card. NIU's Phil Diehl was issued his second yellow card at the 87:10 mark.

Falcon goalkeeper David DeGraff made six saves including five in the second half, while Huskie goalkeeper Rasih Pala was credited with six saves.

NIU held a 23-14 advantage in total shots attempted, and committed 19 fouls to BG's 15.

BG is now 3-6 overall and 0-1 in the MAC, while NIU improves to 5-6 overall and 2-1 in conference action. The Falcons next match will be on Wednesday at Western Michigan. Kickoff in Kalamazoo is slated for 3 p.m.
