Final Stats

Bowling Green, Ohio - Saint Francis University (Pa.) scored twice within the first seven minutes of the match and added two more in the second half to defeat Bowling Green in its home opener to the 2002 season, 4-1. The match was part of the BGSU Diadora Classic at Mickey Cochrane Field.

Sheu Fortunato ricocheted a shot off of the far post, past a diving David DeGraff at 5:52 to open the scoring. Omari Aldridge dribbled past DeGraff 1:06 later for a 2-0 SFU lead.

BGSU (0-3) settled down for the rest of the first half and actually outshot the Red Flash 5-3 in the first 45 minutes. The score stayed at 2-0 through the rest of the first half, though.

The Falcons then struck first in the second half. Freshman Francisco Jose Sanchez scored his first collegiate goal at 54:10 when he knocked a loose ball in the box past SFU goalkeeper Joe Alianiello. Senior Damion Bennett earned the assist and Bowling Green was back to within one, 2-1.

However, SFU (1-2) answered just over four minutes later when Bruno Lacaria knocked in his first of two goals in the second half (58:15). His final goal came at 70:37 to end the scoring.

SFU held a 10-8 advantage in shots for the match while BGSU had a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.

BGSU hosts Duquesne (1-0-1) on Sunday, Sept. 8, at 3 p.m. in the final match of the Diadora Classic. Former Falcon assistant coach Wade Jean will lead his Dukes against Bowling Green.

Game One of Diadora Classic

Duquesne battled Detroit-Mercy (2-0-1) to a 1-1 tie on Saturday in the first match of the Diadora Classic at Cochrane Field. UDM had two players, including its starting goalkeeper, receive red cards after halftime. However, the Titans struck first in the 27th minute with a goal by Eris Tafaj. UD finally knotted the score at 72:31 with a goal by Damien Pottinger. Both teams battled to two scoreless overtime periods for the 1-1 tie.

UDM plays Saint Francis at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8.
