Falcons Soar at the MAC / Big East Challenge

Oct. 29, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla. -

MAC / Big East Challenge Results
The Falcons capped of their fall season in exciting fashion Sunday when they took third overall at the MAC / Big East Challenge in Orlando, Fla.

Leading the flock was sophomore Matt Schneider. In the opening round of play Schneider carded a tournament-low 69. He would pound in a 73 in the second round of play, and holed out the tournament with a 75 in the third round. His 1-over, 217, would leave him in a tie for third place overall for the tournament.

Fellow sophomore John Powers also finished in the top 10 at the tournament on Sunday. After firing a pair of 74's through the first two rounds, Powers would card 73 to finish 5-over (221) to cap off his fall slate.

Trailing Powers by 2 shots was sophomore Andrew Ladwig. His 7-over, 223, came to life when he carded a 73 in the opening round. Ladwig would drop a few shots in the second round only to make a charge in the final round and card a 74 on the way to his finish T-12.

Senior captain Jace Walker recovered from early round woes to finish alongside his teammate Andrew Ladwig. Walker opened the first two rounds shooting a pair of 76's through 36 holes. In the final round, Walker would battle his way up the leader board when he carded a final round score of 71.

Trevor Spathelf helped the Falcons to their third place finish when he fired an aggregate score of 229. Spathelf opened up play by shooting a 73 in his first round, but fell down the standings in the second round when he carded an 81. Spathelf then worked his way back up the board when he finished with a 75. His finish tied him for 32nd overall in the tournament.
