April 25, 2005

Bowling Green, Ohio - Former Bowling Green State University defensive back Keon Newson has signed with the St. Louis Rams as an undrafted free agent. The Decatur, Georgia native is the third Falcon to sign a free agent deal in the last two days joining WR Cole Magner (Atlanta) and K Shaun Suisham (Pittsburgh). Another former BGSU standout, C Scott Mruczkowski was drafted in the seventh round by the San Diego Chargers.

Newson was a first-team All-MAC selection after tying for the league lead in interceptions with six, including two which were returned for TDs. He started 42 career games and had 72 tackles as a senior. As a junior, he had a team-high 124 tackles and led the MAC with six forced fumbles.

His brother, Kendall, is a wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins. Newson also played one season, 2002-03, for the BGSU men's basketball team.
