The Falcons suffered their first loss of the season making a strong second-half comeback to force
overtime before losing an 83-75 decision at Northern Iowa.
The Falcons took their only lead of the second half at 68-66 on a jumper by Keith McLeod with 2:04 remaining.
Northern Iowa would force the overtime as Cory Jenkins converted a pair of free tosses with 1:31 left to tie the game at 68-all.
UNI had four shots in the last 10 seconds of regulation from close range but missed on all tries and the two teams went to overtime.
Northern Iowa scored the first five points of the extra session on a jumper by Kelvin Hill at the 4:21 mark and a three-pointer
by Aaron Middendorf at the 3:27 mark.
The Falcons would close to within two points on a pair of Trent Jackson free throws with 59 seconds left, but UNI would convert all
eight of their free throws the rest of the way to secure the win.
UNI led most of the first half building as much as a 10-point bulge on two occasions, the latest on a pair of free throws
with 24 seconds left which made it the 39-29 score at halftime. The Falcons led briefly early at 10-5 at the
13:26 mark and briefly in middle portion of the half.
UNI built their biggest lead of the game, 12 points, twice early in the second half. An 11-0 BG run wiped out all but one point
of that 12-point disadvantage at the 15:26 mark. The Falcons pulled even with UNI (at 66-all) on a three-pointer by McLeod with 2:57 left, setting
the stage the final minutes of regulation and overtime.
McLeod led the Falcons with 21 points, 18 of those in the second half. He made all seven of his shots in the second half, including
four three-pointers. Trent Jackson chipped in with 15 points, 12 in the second half as BG shot 63.2% from the field in the second half, made all
five of its shots from three-point range, and hit 10-of-11 free tosses.
In overtime, BG was 1-5 from the field while UNI hit 3-4 from the field. UNI hit 28 of their 33 free tosses in the game, which included
their last 16 of the game.
