June 4, 2002 Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University's Corey Loomis was drafted today in the 21st round (620th pick overall) of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the Detroit Tigers. The second baseman recently completed his junior season at BGSU, leading the Falcons with a .404 batting average while scoring 61 runs with 13 doubles, four triples, 13 home runs and 52 RBIs. He also registered a .715 slugging percentage and .472 on-base percentage, and was named to the All-MAC First Team at second base. Loomis helped the Falcons from his second base position turn a school-record and league-high 65 double plays. He was drafted out of Eastwood High School in 1999 by the Detroit Tigers in the 38th round. The last Falcon selected in the MLB amateur draft was pitcher Tony Fontana in 2000 by the Boston Red Sox (7th round). The Pemberville, Ohio, native has a career batting average of .361 in 140 games played for the Brown and Orange. Loomis made 49 starts this season at second base while making 38 starts at second base as a sophomore and 24 starts at third base as a freshman.
