Final Stats

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University baseball team jumped all over the Ohio Bobcats in a 14-4 rout Friday afternoon. A nine-run eighth inning sealed the deal for the Brown and Orange.

BGSU tallied a run in each of the first three innings to take an early 3-0 advantage. Freshman Logan Meisler led off the Falcon half of the first frame with a shot into shallow left center field. The Port Clinton, Ohio native showed off the wheels and stretched the base hit into a double. Sophomore Brian Hangbers did the rest, driving Meisler home with an RBI-single.

The Bobcats closed the gap with a run in the fourth and two scores in the sixth inning. Bowling Green counterpunched in the home-half of the sixth, however, with two runs of their own. The Falcons recorded two base hits with two outs before a Bobcat fielding error allowed two runs to be plated.

The score remained 5-3 after seven and a half innings, until Bowling Green put together nine runs in the bottom of the eighth. Seniors Kurt Wells and Eric Lawson, along with Junior Andrew Foster each posted run-scoring hits in the scoring surge. Wells picked up two RBI with his shot into the right center field gap, good for a double.

Senior Tyler Johnson capped off his career with a complete game, his fourth of the season. Thanks to the nine-inning outing, Johnson's 89.2 innings pitched total for this season is the fourth most in Falcon history. Johnson's 62 career appearances also cracks the all-time top ten list.

Game two is scheduled to begin at 3 PM on Friday with Saturday's contest slated to begin at 1 PM. Saturday will be Senior Day at Warren Steller Field, honoring the eight-member senior class.
