Flashes Spoil Senior Day, BGSU Loses 6-3

May 7, 2006

Box Score

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University baseball team attempted a late-game rally before eventually falling short in a 6-3 loss to Kent State Sunday afternoon. Senior Tyler Saneholtz did not allow a run in 1.1 innings of relief.

BGSU notched their first run of the game in the sixth after digging themselves a 6-0 hole to begin the contest. A solo shot by Junior Eric Lawson sailed over the left field fence to cut the Kent State lead down to five runs.

Junior Tyler Johnson kept the Falcons in it by working the mound for the final 3.2 innings, allowing just one run.

With the score remaining at 6-1 in the bottom of the eighth, Freshman Ryan Shay ignited the Falcon lineup with an infield single. After a groundball advanced Shay to second, Junior Kurt Wells recorded his 26th RBI of the season with a single into right field, scoring Shay. The Brown and Orange added another run in the inning for a 6-3 score.

Johnson secured the 6-3 score by blanking the Flashes in the top of the ninth. With two outs in the home-half of the inning, Freshman Brian Hangbers stroked a double over the center fielder's head. Unfortunately, the next Falcon batter grounded out to end the game.

Bowling Green's next scheduled game is Tuesday, May 9th at Oakland. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM.
