Baseball Bounces Back, 9-1 Victory

April 22, 2006

Box Score

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - A pair of freshman shined in Bowling Green's 9-1 win over the Zips in game two of the weekend series. Brian Hangbers (3-1) earned the win by hurling 7.0 shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out four. Freshman first baseman, Brandon McFarland, notched Bowling Green's first run with a homerun to right field in the fourth inning, his first collegiate homerun.

The Perrysburg, Ohio native scored the Falcons second run as well after legging out a triple in the seventh, another career first for McFarland.

As Hangbers was set on cruise control, the Brown and Orange exploded for seven runs in the eighth to take nine-run advantage. BGSU tallied five hits in the offensive explosion with four different Falcons recording RBI-knocks.

Freshman Ryan Shay hit the sacrifice fly that scored McFarland back in the seventh, and followed it up with two more RBI off a double to center field in the eighth. Bowling Green batted completely around the order, including the top three hitters recording two at-bats apiece in the inning.

Sophomore Brett Browning closed out the Falcon victory by working the mound for the final two innings, allowing just one unearned run.

The Falcons and Zips are scheduled to play the rubber match, Sunday afternoon at 1 PM.
