Culp Named MAC Runner Of Week

Sept. 2, 2003

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University cross country senior Amber Culp has been named the Mid-American Conference Women's Runner of the Week, the conference office has announced. She earns the honor for the first time in her Falcon career.

Culp, a native of Ann Arbor, Mich. (Pioneer HS), was the individual winner in the Eastern Michigan University Open, held at Buhr Park in her hometown Saturday morning (Aug. 28). Culp, the BGSU women's team captain, won the 30-woman race in a time of 19:16. She finished seven seconds ahead of the second-place runner, the University of Michigan's Arianne Field.

The race marked the seventh consecutive time Culp has been the top Falcon finisher, dating to last season.

No team scores were kept in the meet, which marked BGSU's 2003 season opener.

The Falcons now will host two consecutive meets, beginning with Friday's (Sept. 5) dual meet vs. the University of Toledo. The women's race is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m., while the men's race (5K) is set for a 5:45 p.m. start. The next weekend, BGSU will host the Mel Brodt Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 13.
