Final Stats

TOLEDO, Ohio - Senior Nicole Suitor finished 20th among individuals as the Bowling Green State University women's cross country team placed seventh at the 2004 Mid-American Conference Championships Saturday (Oct. 30). The BGSU men placed 10th as a team in the race, at the Ottawa Park Golf Course in Toledo, Ohio.

Kent State captured the women's championship, while Central Michigan took home the men's team title on a wet and windy morning in the Glass City. Sophomore Rogers Kipchumba paced the Falcon men with a 13th-place individual finish.

On the women's side, the Falcons finished with a team total of 140 points, six behind sixth-place Miami in the 13-team race. Suitor finished the race in a time of 18:59.10 to lead the Falcons and place 20th in the 107-woman race. Freshman Stephanie Hillman was right behind Suitor, placing 21st in a time of 19:00.65.

Other BGSU competitors in the league championship meet included senior Melissa Krueger (27th; 19:06.75), freshman Jamie Roflow (35th; 19:15.90), senior Elise Gould (19:18.10), sophomores Kim Settle (54th; 19:48.25) and Andrea Pollack (55th; 19:48.75), graduate student Christina Gingras (69th; 20:18.55) and junior Caroline Kipchaba (85th; 20:50.95).

On the men's side, the Falcons' team total of 262 points was just four behind Toledo and five in back of Marshall in the 10-team race. Kipchumba led the way for the Falcons, with a time of 25:53.15 to finish 13th among 82 competitors. Junior transfer Bryan Jackson was the second BG runner to cross the finish line, placing 63rd in a time of 28:02.90.

Rounding out the BGSU men's competitors were freshman Curtis Farnsel (71st; 28:40.80), sophomore Edwin Cheruiyot (72nd; 28:42.10), senior Steve Vairetta (74th; 28:54.20) and freshman Ryan Rohrer (78th; 30:13.20).

Buffalo's Jenny Koeppel (17:51.70) was the women's individual winner, while CMU's Tristen Perlberg (24:42.25) captured the men's crown.

The BGSU teams now prepare for the NCAA Regional race on Saturday, Nov. 13 in Ypsilanti, Mich.
