John Holmes Selected as First MEAC Player of the Week for 2007-08 Season

Virginia Beach, Va. - The first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Players of the Week were announced on Monday afternoon, and Bethune-Cookman junior forward John Holmes has been selected as this week's Player of the Week in men's basketball.

Holmes, a 6-foot-5, 190-pounder from Salisbury, Md., averaged 18 points while shooting 57 percent from the field in two wins for B-CU over Edward Waters and conference rival Florida A&M. He posted a season-high 26 points while grabbing down seven rebounds against EWC. He went on to pass-out two assists and swat two shots.

He followed that up with his first double-double outing of the year against FAMU on Saturday as he registered 10 points and 10 rebounds. Holmes transferred into B-CU from Des Moines Area Community College in Iowa.

This week's Rookie of the Week award went to Thomas Coleman of North Carolina A&T. Coleman 16 points, 15 rebounds and five blocked shots in two games for the Aggies.

Hampton's Matt Pilgrim became the league's inaugural Defensive Player of the Week in leading the Pirates to a perfect 3-0 week, including wins against VCU and Delaware. Pilgrim pulled down 15 rebounds (10 defensive) in three games, while posting two blocked shots and three steals.
