Women's Rowing Competes in ECAC/METRO Championships

WORCESTER, MASS. - The Boston College women's rowing team captured one gold medal and one bronze medal in the ECAC/METRO Championships on Saturday, May 6. All of the Eagles' five boats advanced to the grand finals in each event on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.

The Eagles' novice eight crew continued its recent success, earning a gold medal with its first-place finish. BC posted a time of 7 minutes 22.70 seconds, less than two seconds before second-place Rhode Island (7:24.75). St. Joseph's (7:28.71), Massachusetts (7:30.60), Temple (7:39.70) and Colgate (7:51.03) rounded out the grand final results in the novice eight competition.

BC's second varsity eight crew captured a bronze medal, finishing behind Massachusetts and Colgate, respectively. The Eagles (7:18.64) finished 0.24 seconds behind Colgate (7:18.37) as Massachusetts cruised to the gold medal-winning finish (7:13.24). New Hampshire (7:22.70), Buffalo (7:23.59) and Rhode Island (7:23.59) finished in the top-six in the grand final.

The Eagles' two varsity four crews finished fifth and sixth in the grand final. Buffalo (8:00.22) captured the gold medal, as Marist (8:11.42) and Massachusetts (8:14.13) also earned medals. Colgate (8:21.21) raced to a fourth-place finish. BC's "A" boat clocked in at 8:28.45 while the Eagles' "B' crew finished in 8:42.02.

The rowing team's varsity eight crew raced to a fifth-place finish in a close six-team grand final race. Massachusetts (7:07.05), Rhode Island (7:10.41) and Buffalo (7:13.93) finished in the top three. Villanova (7:16.12) finished 1.29 seconds ahead of the Eagles, who clocked in at 7:17.41. Temple finished sixth with a time of 7:21.97.

The Eagles return to action on Sunday, May 14, when they race in the Eastern Sprints (EAWRC Championships) on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J. The Eastern Sprints is BC's final regular-season race.
