Women's Cross Country Races At NCAA Championship

Terre Haute, Ind. - The women's cross country team raced in its third consecutive NCAA Championship, placing 30th, on Monday, Nov.19.

Hosted by Indiana State University, the Eagles finished the 6,000-meter race in a pace of 21:59, combining for a time of 1:49.51. Their pace was a full 3:80 faster than the performance at the 2006 NCAA Championship. Leading the pack was sophomore Brielle Chabot, who placed 56th in a time of 21:17. She finished the 2007 race 1:35 faster than last year.

Junior captain Nichole Lister placed second for the Eagles, clocking a 21:30, 1:19 faster than her 2006 outing. Fellow captain Mallory Champa crossed in 21:51 and was followed by sophomore Jessica Driscoll (22:13) and senior Jennifer Heyde (22:35).

Stanford was the 2007 NCAA Team Champion. They finished the race with a combined time of 1:44.55. Texas Tech's Sally Kipyego took top individual honors, clocking a 19:31.

On the men's side, senior captain Patrick Mellea was the Eagle's lone runner for the 10,000-meter championship. He finished the race in 31:36.5. Josh McDougal of Liberty won the race outright, crossing the finish line in 29:22.4.

This marks the end of the 2007 cross country season. Many of the runners will continue competition for the indoor track & field teams. Indoor competition begins on Saturday, Dec. 1.
