For the second consecutive year, Boston College finished seventh at the ICSA Women's National Championship. The event was held at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., from May 23-25.
St. Mary's captured first place, followed by College of Charleston and Stanford in second and third place. Navy, Harvard and Cal-Irvine rounded out the top six.
The Eagles were led by sophomores Martha Pitt and Lily Beck, who sailed to seventh in A division in the 16-race regatta. Senior Rebecca Mergenthaler and junior Mallory Fontenot split B division with sophomore Lauren Gillooly and junior Emily Flint. The four combined to take eighth in the division.
The Eagles entered the championship ranked sixth in the nation, after having finished third at the conference championships.
Head Coach Greg Wilkinson expressed his pride in the team's accomplishments.
"Our women's team rallied this spring after losing our top skipper," Wilkinson said. "That was not easy on anyone, and it was a real team effort just to get to nationals this year. We would have loved to finish in the top 5, but we are happy with our result. We were the second NEISA Conference finisher and we had our first women's All-American honoree since 2002."

At the conclusion of the championship, Pitt gained ICSA All-America honorable-mention accolades. Just one month ago, Pitt had received All-Conference honors, along with teammates Leigh Kempton and Emily Flint. Pitt is the first BC women's skipper to gain All-Americas status since current Olympic hopeful Carrie Howe '03 received honorable-mention honors in both 2001 and 2002.
