Volleyball Rallies Again, Downs Colorado 3-2
Oct. 20, 2007 WACO, Texas - For the second time this week, Baylor rallied from a 2-1 deficit as the Bears defeated Colorado 3-2 (30-22, 22-30, 24-30, 30-17, 15-9) on Saturday night at the Ferrell Center. Baylor (11-10, 4-7 Big 12) rallied to down Kansas on the road on Wednesday night, and earned its second five-game win over the Buffs this season on Saturday. Colorado (5-14, 0-11 Big 12) won 13-straight matches against the Bears entering this season, but dropped two decisions to the Bears this season. Baylor earns its first season sweep over the Buffaloes. After exchanging points through the first 11 serves of game five, Baylor finally broke through with a point on serve to take a 7-5 lead on a block by Haley Thomas and Anna Breyfogle. Colorado tied the game at seven before Baylor pulled back in front by two. The Bears took an 11-8 lead on consecutive blocks to force Colorado into its second timeout. A solo block by Breyfogle and back-to-back kills by Taylor Barnes ended the match as Baylor took game five 15-9. Katie Sanders tallied 20 kills and hit .333 for the match to lead Baylor. Breyfogle and Amanda Modglin also reached double-figures with 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Modglin did not commit a hitting error as she hit at a .565 (13-0-23) clip, while Breyfogle had just two errors on the night, hitting .462 (14-2-26). This marked the second-straight match that Modglin hit .565 or better as she recorded a .583 hitting percentage (7-0-12) against Kansas on Wednesday. She did not commit a hitting error in 35 total attacks this week. Barnes was just two kills away from a triple-double as she tallied eight kills to go along with 53 assists and a career-high 19 digs. Baylor placed a season-best five players in double-figure digs, including Sanders, who tallied her 14th double-double of the season with 16 digs. Sarah Grace recorded 15 digs, while Kristen Schramek and Kelsey Smith added 14 and 11 digs, respectively.
In the Sept. 19 meeting at Colorado, Baylor established a new school record with 23.0 team blocks. The Bears added 16.0 blocks on Saturday, including eight apiece for Breyfogle, Modglin and Thomas. Baylor came out hot in game one, recording 23 kills and just three hitting errors to hit .455 to win game one 30-22. Colorado fought back in games two and three, with 17 kills in each game, while Baylor hit under .200 in both games. Needing a win in game four to stay alive, Baylor hit .375 (15-3-32), while Colorado hit .061 as the Bears dominated game four 30-17. Baylor returns to action on Wednesday as the Bears step out of conference play and travel to face TCU in Fort Worth.
