Women's Tennis Fall to No. 17 Tulane

WACO, Texas - The Baylor women's tennis team saw their three-match winning streak come to a halt when they lost a road match to 17th-ranked Tulane, 4-2, at the Goldring Tennis Center on Wednesday in New Orleans, La. Tulane raised its record to 13-1 while Baylor fell to 5-8.
The Bears, ranked 41st nationally, won at both ends of the lineup for their two victories of the afternoon. Freshman Carolin Walter, ranked No. 38, posted a three-set victory at No. 1 by defeating Maria Ivanov, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. The win was Walter's fourth straight victory and raised her season record to 18-7. At No. 6, Iva Mihaylova also posted her fourth consecutive win with a straight set (6-0, 7-6) victory over 44th-ranked Erika Valdez. The triumph was Mihaylova's first win over a ranked player in four tries. The freshman raised her season record to 16-9 with the victory.
Once the dual match win had been decided, the doubles portion of the match was cancelled die to Baylor's flight arrangements. Head coach Joey Scrivano's Baylor squad will now travel to Lubbock, Texas, to take on the Red Raiders in their fourth Big 12 match of the season. The match will be played on Sun., Mar. 21. Baylor is 2-1 in Big 12 action so far this season.
