Equestrian Welcomes South Dakota State and SMU
Nov. 16, 2005 WACO, Texas - Baylor's Equestrian program will host its first-ever show at the Willow Spring Farm this weekend as South Dakota State and SMU travel to Waco for the two days of head-to-head competition. Friday afternoon will hold both English and Western events, which begin at 2 p.m., featuring Baylor and South Dakota State riders while Saturday's show against SMU will only consist of English disciplines. Saturday events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Baylor's riders participating on Friday come from both disciplines and four different events. English riders Nicole Brown, Susie Foster, Shelby White, and Mollie Smith will perform the Equitation over Fences while White, Atlee Johnston, N. Brown, Amanda Esco, Foster, and Jill Anthony will compete in the Equitation on the Flat routine. The Western events will feature Brenna Burris, Stephanie Thompson, Kim Crook, Ashleigh Brown, Nicole McCoy, and Kim Marlowe in Horsemanship. The Reining participants are Kendra Kemp, Burris, Esco, and Brown.
On Saturday only the English riders will participate as SMU only maintains an English team. The Equitation over Fences athletes are Smith, N. Brown, Esco, Foster, White, and Sarah Christy, and Baylor's Flat riders are Cara Wilson, N. Brown, Esco Foster, White, Johnston, and Deirdre Sabo. The English riders' last competition was at Texas A&M, who hosted an IHSA show, where they tied for first with power-house Oklahoma State at the first show and then finished fifth in the second show. In total, Baylor boasted two high-point riders, N. Brown and Foster. The Western team last rode at the OSU Western IHSA show in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Several riders placed first in their class, including Kemp and McCoy. Results from this weekend's shows will be posted at www.baylorbears.com at the conclusion of each day's events.
