Waco native Damion McKinney begins his third year as a member of Coach Mulkey's staff after joining the Lady Bear program on August 16, 2006.

McKinney, a 1992 graduate of LaVega (Texas) High School, comes to the Lady Bear program from the Dallas-based DFW Basketball organization where he was the program's elite recruiting director. In addition, he has coached at the high school level, most recently as an assistant boys coach at Dallas' Sunset High School where he taught ninth grade history.

The 33-year-old earned his bachelor of science degree from Midwestern State University (MSU) in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he was a two-time first-team All-Lone Star Conference basketball selection. McKinney still holds the MSU record for three-pointers in a game with nine. Prior to transferring to MSU, McKinney played at Waco's McLennan Community College.

"Damion is a local young man that will bring a lot of new energy to our program. He has expressed an eagerness to learn and a willingness to work hard," said head coach Kim Mulkey. "He has a strong background in AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) basketball and his experience and contacts in that arena bring an added dimension to our recruiting," she added.

During his prep career at LaVega, McKinney was a standout performer in football, basketball and track. Among his honors were first-team Super Centex and all-district honors in basketball and first-team all-district football kudos as a quarterback and defensive back.

"I am eager to learn and develop at the collegiate level. I know I can gain invaluable experience working for Coach Mulkey and am willing to work hard and dedicate the time and attention needed to make a contribution to this program," said McKinney.
