Kyle Spencer enters his second year as the Baylor Assistant Director of Tennis. Spencer replaced Sam Winterbotham, who was named head men's tennis coach at the University of Tennessee in 2006.

Spencer brings a wealth of experience to the Baylor tennis program having played at the collegiate, Olympic and professional levels and coaching in the collegiate and professional ranks.

In his first year at Baylor, Spencer helped coach the Bears to the NCAA Final Four, an undefeated Big 12 Conference championship, and a Big 12 Tournament championship. For these accomplishments, Spencer received the ITA South Central Region Assistant Coach of The Year award.

Spencer has been successful in every aspect of his playing and coaching careers. As a junior, Spencer won the International Grass Court Championship in the B18's. In doubles, he was a national champion in both the B16's and 18's Indoors, and made the final of the B18's national championship at Kalamazoo, Mich., in the Boys 18's doubles. He finished that year as the No. 1 ranked doubles player by the USTA in the B18's. Spencer was rewarded by being selected to participate in the 1995 US Open Junior Event.

He went on to enjoy a four-year career at USC from 1995-98. While at USC Spencer and his partner George Bastl were named the 1997 ITA National Doubles Team of the Year, after reaching the finals of the NCAA Doubles Championship, and finishing the year as the No. 1 ranked doubles team in the nation. While at USC, the Trojans twice made the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship.

Spencer, a Pac-10 All-Academic selection, graduated from USC in 1999 with a degree in International Relations.

After graduating from USC Spencer went on to have a successful career on the ATP Tour. He won seven pro titles from 16 finals. He reached a career high of No. 126 on the ATP Tour in doubles. During his time on the ATP Tour Spencer played in over 40 countries on six continents. Highlighting his time on the Tour were three appearances in the main draw of Wimbledon.

Spencer's greatest accomplishment was representing his native Great Britain in doubles with partner Barry Cowan in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Upon retiring from the ATP Tour Spencer served as assistant coach at USC for the 2004 and 2005 seasons. While at USC, he coached the Trojans to the NCAA Final Four in 2004 where they were eliminated by the Baylor Bears.

Spencer also has an extensive pro coaching resume on the ATP Tour. Among his former pupils is Robert Kendrick, who while being coached by Spencer, made the second highest yearly jump on the ATP Tour World Rankings for 2005. Kendrick skyrocketed from No. 375 to No. 73 in the world rankings in just 10 months. Spencer also coached ATP doubles player Ashley Fisher to a ranking of No. 24 in the world. Under Spencer's tutelage, Fisher and his partner Tripp Phillips advanced to the semi-finals of the 2005 U.S. Open.

Spencer lives in Waco and recently became engaged to Kacie Arnold.
