Men's Golf in Fifth After Day One in Puerto Rico

DORADO BEACH, Puerto Rico - Baylor's men's golf team fired a first-round score of 289 and are sitting 10 shots off the lead in fifth place after the first day of the Hyatt Plantation Club Intercollegiate. The tournament is hosted by Georgia State University and is held at the par-72, 6,834-yard Plantation course.

Sophomore Jeremy Alcorn (Brownwood, Texas) shot a two-under-par 70 in the first round and is in a tie for fifth place currently. He is looking to improve on his already impressive start to his sophomore season, which includes two wins (LSU and UTSA).

Sophomore transfer Colton Turnquist (Austin, Texas) and freshman Wes Williams (Franklin, Tenn.) both fired even-par 72s in the first round and are currently tied for 19th. Another transfer, Chase Thomas (Dallas, Texas) and sophomore Jeremy Frye (Palestine, Texas) both shot three-over-par 75's in their first rounds and are tied for 38th. Freshman Brian Meck (Austin, Texas) shot an opening round of 78 and is in a tie for 49th, playing as an individual.

The Bears are only 10 shots back from host Georgia State who shot an opening round score of 279 and sit in first place. They have a one shot advantage over Georgia Southern (280) and two shot lead over Southern Mississippi (282). Indiana (284) is in fourth place after the first day, while the Bears round out the rest of the top-five.

Georgia Southern's Aron Price and Georgia State's Ben Taylor shot 67's in the first round and are tied for the lead after the first round of play.

Round two of the Hyatt Plantation Club Intercollegiate will begin at 8:15 a.m. on Monday, March 7 at the Plantation Course.
