Baylor Senior Jimmy Walker Takes Individual Honors At Griffitts Baylor Invitational
Nov. 7, 2000 WACO, Texas - Southeastern Louisiana (285-287-286=858) won the team title of the Henry Griffitts Baylor Invitational by two strokes at Ridgewood Country Club in Waco, Texas, Tuesday. Baylor, led by senior Jimmy Walker's four-under-par 206, finished third with a three-round 862. The Bears (289-278-295=862) led after two rounds, before shooting a round three 295. Louisiana-Lafayette (287-287-286=860) finished third by two strokes. After SLU shot two strokes ahead of ULL in the first round, both teams went on to shoot identical second and third round scores of 287 and 286, respectively. Wichita State (289-279-296=864) finished fourth overall and Mississippi (285-292-287=864) rounded out the top five in a tie for fourth. After posting two straight sub-par rounds, Baylor's Walker (68-66-72=206) shot a final-round 72 to finish four-strokes ahead of the field. Walker was also the only player to finish under-par as the next best scores came from Lamar's Chris Stroud and Texas A&M's Josh McCoy who finished tied for second at even par. Rounding out the top five were Arkansas-Little Rock's Daniel Fox and a three-way tie for fifth between Louisiana-Lafayette's Richard Ainley and Theo Silman and Wichita State's Brad Golden. After Walker, the Bears finished with three players in the top 25. Senior Brandon Sanders (75-68-75 =218) and freshmen Adam Meyer (74-72-72=218) tied for 22nd at eight over-par. Rounding out the scores for the Bears were senior Worth Williams (72-73-76=221) who finished tied for 40th and sophomore Garrett Froggatte (76-72-79=227) who finished tied for 68th.
The Henry Griffitts Baylor Invitational concludes the fall season for the Bears. Baylor posted three top five team finishes this fall including one title at the Missouri Invitational. The Bears next tournament will be February 12-13 at the Rice/Lamar Invitational in Houston, Texas.
