Men Golfers Win Purina Classic by Three Strokes
Oct. 10, 2000 ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Baylor's men golf team shot a tournament best 277 in the final round as they clinch their first tournament win on the season Tuesday at the Purina Classic in St. Charles, Mo. Senior Jimmy Walker (71-68-68=207) shoots two consecutive rounds of 3-under and finishes tied for second on the tournament with host Missouri's Mark McBride, both 6-under on the tournament. True freshmen Adam Meyer (79-73-65=217) shots a final round best 6-under, two strokes ahead of the next best score, and cards in at 4-over on the tournament. The Bears (292-284-277=853) shoot the best final round score of the day and card in three strokes ahead of host Missouri (286) and six strokes ahead of third place finisher's Kansas (859). Senior Brandon Sanders (72-75-69=216) and debut true freshmen Will Doughtie (75-70-75=220) finish tied for 18th and 30th respectively, as the Bears place all 5 players in the top 30 out of a field of 84.
The Bears next tournament play will kick-off October 9-10 in Nacogdoches, Texas at the Stephen F. Austin Crown Classic.
