Sophomore Ryan Baca shot a five under par in the first day in Laredo

LOREDO,Texas-- Sophomore Ryan Baca (71-68=139) shot a combined 139 and currently ranks fourth in all individuals at the Border Olympics Invitational on Friday. The Bears (285-290=575) as a team shot a 575 and currently sit at third place heading into the final round of 18 on Saturday.

Junior Will Doughtie (70-74=144) shot even par 72 in his first two rounds and is tied for sixteenth overall. Teammate Trevar Matheson (73-72=145) a junior from Scotlandwell, Scotland followed with a one over par leaving him tied for 24th.

Baylor (575) as a team shot one under par and was only one of three teams to break par. University of Arkansas (565) comfortably holds a seven stroke lead above second place San Diego State University (572). Both Brigham Young University and Lamar University (577) shot one over par and are tied for fourth rounding out the top five teams.

Junior Austin Burk (73-76=149) shot a 149 five over par and currently ranks tied for 54th. Baca, Doughtie, Matheson and Burk were the four scorers for the Bears in the opening rounds.

Freshman Will McDonald (71-79=150) shot a combined first two round score of 150 six over par and is currently tied for 62nd place.

Tomorrow the Bears will try to win their fifth out of sixth Border Olympic Invitational.

The final 18 holes of the Border Olympic Invitational will begin Saturday at 8 a.m.
