Men's Golf Opens 13-Stroke Lead at Border Olympics

LAREDO, Texas - The Baylor men's golf team shot the lowest score in the first round with a 286, then followed with a 284 to hold a 13-stroke lead after day one of the Border Olympics Friday at the 7,241-yard, par-72 Laredo Country Club. Sophomore Chase Thomas (Dallas, Texas) fired an opening-round 69, then shot a 70 for a 5-under par total of 139 to stand atop the leaderboard. Sophomore Jeremy Alcorn (Brownwood, Texas) shot 73 in the first round, then followed with a 69 to trail Thomas by three strokes in second place at 143. Sophomore Colton Turnquist (Austin, Texas) is tied for fourth with identical rounds of even-par 72, while freshman Brian Meck (Austin, Texas) is tied for 12th with rounds of 72 and 74. Sophomore Jeremy Frye (Palestine, Texas) is tied for 39th at 6-over par 150 (77-73). Competing individually, redshirt freshman Wes Williams (Franklin, Tenn.) is tied for 18th at 3-over par 147 (74-73), while fellow redshirt Matt Briggs (Dallas, Texas) is tied for 26th at 4-over par 148.
