Men's Golf Finishes Fifth At El Diablo

Citrus Springs, Florida - The Baylor men's golf team shot a 36-hole total of 586 to finish fifth at the rain-shortened El Diablo Intercollegiate. Senior Worth Williams led the Bears in scoring, finishing tied for 13th. Baylor, the 2000 El Diablo Champion, took the lead after a first round 289, but could not hold on as Toledo (301-278=579) took the lead in the second round. Rounding out the top five were second-place Rhode Island (297-286=583), Miami of Ohio (292-292=584), Illinois (299-286=585), and Baylor. Williams shot a first round 71, followed by a 74 in the second round to pace the Bears. Senior Jimmy Walker (74-73=147) finished tied for 21st with his two round total of 147. Freshman Adam Meyer (70-79=149) finished the tournament tied for 40th. His 70 in the first round was a team-best for the tournament. Senior Brandon Sanders shot a 74 in the first round and a 76 in the second, earning him a 48th-place finish. Rounding out the scoring for Baylor was sophomore Trevar Matheson, who finished tied for 63rd with a score of 152 for 36 holes.
Baylor, currently ranked 46th in the nation, will return to action April 6-7 when it plays in the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas.
