Men's Golf Tied for 11th After First Day of Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Florida - The Baylor men's golf team rebounded from an opening round 298 to fire a 285 in the second round and move into a tie for 11th with a total score of 583 after the first day of the Gator Invitational at the 6,701-yard, par 70 University of Florida Golf Course on Saturday. Freshman Jeremy Frye leads the Bears after shooting rounds of 71 and 73 to tie for 20th at 144. Junior Ryan Baca got off to a slow start with a 76 in the first round, but roared back with a 69 in the second round to tie for 27th at 145. Only four other players scored lower than Baca's 69 during the first two rounds. Freshman Jeremy Alcorn (75-72) and senior Jon Antunes (76-71) are each tied for 46th at 147, while senior Will Doughtie (78-75=153) is tied for 69th. Host Florida leads the tournament with rounds of 281 and 280 for a total of 561. The Gators lead UAB by eight strokes as the Blazers shot rounds of 283 and 286 for a total of 569. UAB's Chris Cousins is the individual leader after two rounds at 3-under par with scores of 67 and 70 for a total of 137. He leads LSU's Garrett Prather (68-70=138) by one stroke.
The tournament concludes with the third round on Sunday beginning at 7 a.m. CST; however Sunday's forecast calls for a 60 percent chance of rain.
