Former Baylor Broadcaster Frank Fallon Wins Chris Schenkel Award
July 27, 2001 WACO, Texas - Baylor alum Frank Fallon, the voice of Baylor University football and basketball for 42 years, will receive the Chris Schenkel Award presented annually by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, Inc. The award will be presented Friday, Aug. 10 at the Mayor's Breakfast during the College Football Hall of Fame's Enshrinement Weekend in South Bend, Ind. The award, named for legendary college football announcer Chris Schenkel, is given annually to a college football broadcaster on the local level who has excelled in his field and contributed to his community. Past award winners are Chris Schenkel (1996), Jack Cristil (Mississippi State, 1997), Max Falkenstein (Kansas, 1998), Jack Flemming (West Virginia, 1999) and Ray Christensen (Minnesota, 2000). Besides broadcasting Baylor football and basketball games, Fallon also was the voice of Baylor baseball for 47 years, stepping down after the 1999 season. On the national scene, Fallon was the public address announcer for the NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four for 21 years. He has been enshrined into both the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame.
Although Fallon retired from the booth in 1995, he continues to give back to
his alma mater by teaching a radio class. For his contributions to Baylor,
the El Paso, Texas native has received the Distinguished Baylor University
Alumnus Award.
