Waco, Texas - Baylor Head Football Coach Kevin Steele announced Monday that he has dismissed sophomore linebacker Anthony Simmons from the team for violation of team policy.

Simmons, a native of New Bern, N.C., finished third on the team with 71 tackles while starting five games last year as a redshirt freshman. He also had three tackles for loss and forced a fumble. Simmons was a projected starter at weakside linebacker for the upcoming season.

Baylor's freshmen report to campus for the start of fall practice Aug. 8, with the varsity joining them on Aug. 10. Practices for the Sept. 8, season opener against Arkansas State begin Aug. 13.
