BATON ROUGE, La. - Kevin Rogers scored 21 points and Aaron Bruce added 14 to lead Baylor past Southern 71-60 Friday night at the Clark Activity Center in Baton Rouge, La.

Up 19-16 midway through the first half, Baylor's Henry Dugat hit a 3-pointer followed by a Delbert Simpson tip-in and jumper by Bruce pushed the lead to 26-16 with six and a half minutes to half.

Rogers scored 15 first-half points to give Baylor a 40-24 halftime lead.

Baylor (9-1) pushed the lead to 54-29 midway through the second before Southern (1-9) used a 17-4 run to pull within 10 with 7:35 remaining. Dugat made a jumper and Curtis Jerrells hit a 3-pointer to push the lead back to 63-48.

"I'm very pleased with our defensive effort tonight," head coach Scott Drew said. "Holding Southern to 37 percent from the field is outstanding."

Rogers added 10 rebounds to notch his fourth double-double of the season.

Southern held Baylor to a season-low 25 percent from the 3-point line and outrebounded the Bears 42-38.

"What a good way to go into the Christmas break, getting two wins on the road," Drew said, "that's something we haven't done for a long time."
