BABSON PARK, Mass. - The Babson College men's ice hockey team recorded a 7-2 victory over visiting Tufts University in an ECAC East/NESCAC matchup on Friday night. With the win, the Beavers improved to 15-8-1 overall and 11-6-1 in the ECAC East, while the Jumbos fell to 6-17-0 overall and 3-15-0 in the NESCAC. Babson took a 1-0 lead with a short-handed goal at 10:06 of the first, as sophomore Matt Harrington (Hanover, Mass.) found the five-hole off a centering pass from junior Tom Maregni (Ashland, Mass.) after an interception deep in the Tufts zone. That lead would be short-lived, however, as first-year Cory Korchin (Fountain Valley, Calif.) redirected a shot by sophomore Phil Clark (Norfolk, Mass.) past sophomore goalie Skylar Nipps (Orlando, Fla.) to even the score at 1-1. The Beavers took the lead for good later in the first, when junior Mike Venit (Ridley Park, Pa.) scored off his own rebound at 15:16. Babson then tacked on a pair of goals in the second, as first-year Jason Schneider (Littleton, Mass.) scored off a rebound at 10:19 and sophomore Alex DiPietro (Winthrop, Mass.) struck on the powerplay at 16:55. The Beavers added three more goals in the final stanza. including Harrington's second of the night, to skate away with the 7-2 victory.
Nipps finished with 18 saves in net for Babson, while Tufts counterpart Issa Azat (South Pasadena, Calif.) made 28 stops before giving way to junior James Kalec (East Amherst, N.Y.), who made eight saves in the final nine minutes. |
