NEW LONDON, Conn. - Babson College junior Nadine Lussier made history at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Track and Field Championships at Coast Guard on Saturday, as she became the first female in program history to earn All-Conference recognition. Lussier finished second overall in the javlin with a throw of 115 feet, 5 inches, which placed her on the All-NEWMAC Second Team. She is just the third Babson track athlete overall to earn the honor, joining Brian Gagne '02, who was named All-NEMWAC in the 10000 meter run in both his junior and senior seasons, and current teammate Dan Cowan, who earned All-Conference honors in the 110 hurdles as a sophomore last spring. Other highlights on the women's side of the meet included another strong performance from first-year Lauren Blackburn, who placed fifth and broke her own school record in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:06.42. The rookie phenom also ran well in the 100 hurdles, finishing eighth overall in 17.33. Salomons, Trant, and Blackburn also joined first-year Alisha Wilsnack on the Beavers' 4x400 relay team, which placed seventh with a time of 4:37.38.
Cowan posted the top finish of the day for the Babson men, as he placed fourth overall in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.91 seconds. First-year Aaron Huckabee also qualified for the finals in that event, where he finished eighth overall in 17.18 seconds. Senior Sherwin Parkhurst added a fifth-place performance in the 5000 meter run, finishing in 34:04.25, followed by sophomore Greg Keshian in ninth with a time of 36:00.67. Meanwhile, first-year Charlie Brown continued his stellar rookie season in the jumping events, placing eighth overall in both the long jump and the triple jump.
