Cell Phone: (508) 654-6447 A collegiate ski coach for 20 years, Joe Harty returns for his 16th season at the helm of the Babson ski teams. Harty, who served as the teams' head coach from 1987 to 1995, guided the men to Thomson Division league championships in 1989 and 1990, and the women to Thomson titles in 1988 and 1991. In addition, he coached regional qualifiers for eight consecutive seasons between 1988 and 1995, and he led the men's team to a national championship appearance in 1988 and took the women to the national meet in 1991. He was named USCSA Eastern Division Coach of the Year in 1989. Following his return to Babson in 2001, he helped lead the Beavers to four straight regional qualifications and back-to-back national championship appearances, culminating with the squad's best finish ever (sixth overall) at nationals in 2006. After leaving Babson in 1995, Harty spent four years as head coach for the men's and women's ski teams at Harvard University. Harty grew up ski racing in Vermont at Ascutney before moving on to Jiminy Peak and Tri-State. He ended his racing career in the Peugeot Pro Circuit. In addition to his ski coaching, Harty coached in the Cape Cod Baseball League for six seasons and has worked for the Pawtucket Red Sox since 2003. Harty has a degree in economics from Southern Connecticut State University and has served as a financial analyst at National Grid since 1983. He currently resides in Norfolk, Mass., with his wife, Madeleine, and his two children, Thomas and Kendall. |
