2007 Schedule
May 2, 2007 AUBURN - The Auburn volleyball squad will face six teams that earned bids to the 2006 NCAA Tournament as the Tigers have set their sights on another exciting season in 2007. Besides the always-tough Southeastern Conference slate, AU will also play in three tournaments. Auburn, which finished last season 13-18 (5-15 SEC), will open the season at home with the War Eagle Invitational on Aug. 24-25. The Tigers will host Troy, Nichols State and Tennessee State, who went 20-14 with a 12-4 conference record to place second in 2006. "We are really excited about this schedule and being able to begin the season at home," head coach Laura Farina said. "The whole goal is to prepare ourselves for a tough and fun conference schedule, and I think we have done that." A trip to Georgia State on Aug. 28 will be the first road test for the Tigers, followed by a trip to the Rocky Mountains for a tournament hosted by Denver University on Aug. 31-Sept. 1. Besides the Pioneers, Auburn will also face DePaul and Wichita State, who finished second in the Missouri Valley last season. Auburn will return home for a match against Kennesaw State on Sept. 4, then head to a tournament in San Antonio to face Texas A&M, Louisiana Tech and host, UTSA on Sept. 7-8. Conference season begins on Sept. 14 with a trip to South Carolina, followed by a match at Sweet 16 participant Florida. Four-straight home matches against Tennessee, Kentucky, LSU and Ole Miss await Auburn, followed by trips to Georgia and Arkansas.
A pair of showdowns with in-state rival Alabama also highlight the schedule, with the Tigers hosting the Crimson Tide on Oct. 12. The regular season wraps up on the road against Ole Miss and LSU on Nov. 16 and 18, respectively. |
