Dean Added to USA Softball Schutt Elite Team

AUBURN * Auburn All-America catcher Sara Dean is one of six players added to the USA Schutt Elite Team roster that will compete in the prestigious Canada Cup from July 3-11 in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.

Dean, a first-team All-Southeastern Conference selection and a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American, will be one of only two SEC players on the roster along with Tennessee's Monica Abbott.

In 2004, Dean led Auburn with a .333 batting average while knocking 21 extra-base hits and driving in 30 runs as a junior. She was also solid behind the plate by throwing out better than 40 percent of would-be base stealers.

The Valencia, Calif., native becomes the second Auburn player to play in the Canada Cup as former Tiger Kristen Keyes competed in 2001. Dean is the first Tiger to compete while at Auburn as Keyes was a member of the National Junior College All-Star team the summer before she transferred to The Plains.
