Florida Quotes
Head Coach Tim Walton
On the game...
"Obviously, you have to give credit to LSU. Their pitchers did a great job of keeping us off balance with the off-speed pitch and the rise ball. When we got runners in scoring position, they put us out. Give them a lot of credit. They did a good job; they are a good team. For us to go nine innings is attributed to Stacey Nelson. She did a good job pitching. In the end, we are saddened by the loss, but if this helps us rebound and get through regionals and super regionals, then that's how it works. We played hard, it just wasn't good enough today."
On the play at second in the top of the ninth inning...
"I saw a great throw from Corrie Brooks off the wall. Kim (Waleszonia) was up the line a little bit. She made a great slide, Kim got her on the helmet and knocked her helmet off. I couldn't tell if she knocked her helmet off before she touched the base or after she touched the base. It's too close to call, I couldn't tell if she was safe or out. Obviously, I was going to say she was out. Give the umpires credit, they do the best job they can. The umpires didn't win or lose this ball game for us. We had plenty of opportunities."
P Stacey Nelson
On how she pitched LSU's Rachel Mitchell in the ninth inning...
"The whole game I had pretty much gone inside to her, so I was trying to give her a different look in that at bat. She stuck the bat out there and went with the pitch."
On her performance throughout the tournament...
"I was feeling good. It's hard when you're facing the same batters three or four times in a row. They start to see your pitches and guess what you're going to throw."
LSU Quotes
Head Coach Yvette Girouard
On the game...
"Everybody got their money's worth in this. Stacey Nelson has improved greatly. She had a fabulous tournament, but I will credit my two pitchers. When we split them up on this last day, it seems to be working. We keep talking about living in the present, and that's what
(Leslie) Klein and (Rachel) Mitchell did. That's what you want to see in your hitters."
On Dani Hofer...
"She was tremendous to come in and shut them down. I know it means something to her being a Florida girl, so I am happy for her."
On winning the SEC Championship...
"This never gets old, and we never take it for granted."
OF Leslie Klein
On her game-winning RBI at bat...
"I wanted to put a good swing on the ball and not go for anything more than a single to score her (Mitchell). I was seeing her (Stacey Nelson) pretty well all day, but her change-up kept me off balance. I wasn't going to swing at it anymore because I did in my first two at-bats. She wasn't going to get me on that a third time. She is a good pitcher. I made an adjustment, crowded the plate and took the outside pitch. I wanted to make a safe double, and I had a smile from ear to ear the whole time."
P Dani Hofer
On coming on in relief...
"I knew I needed to come in and hold the batters down so our offense could do the job. It took a couple extra innings, but I knew sooner or later they were going to get it done."
