AUBURN
- Auburn senior defenseman Erin Hinson has been named to the Women's Soccer Academic All-America Second Team as announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

"Erin is the perfect definition of a student-athlete," head coach Karen Hoppa said. "We are so proud of her and excited that she could conclude her soccer career with this prestigious honor."

Hinson, a native of Birmingham, Ala., joins the elite group of student-athletes as she has accumulated a 3.86 grade point average in exercise science during her stint at Auburn.

In addition to her academic accolades, Hinson has been a major part of Auburn's athletic success the past four seasons. She has been named as a team captain the past three seasons and has helped lead her team to three SEC Western Division titles and an SEC Championship title in 2002.

This season, Hinson was named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week and was the SEC Defensive Player of the Week. Also in 2003, the defender was key in Auburn's record 12 shutouts on the year and helped lead the team to its second consecutive trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Hinson completed her career at Auburn earlier this month with her name at the top of the record books as she played in and started every contest during her four seasons (83). She also finished with three goals, six assists and a game-winning goal against Alabama in her final regular-season game.

Making her way on the national ballot by earning first team District IV Academic All-America honors earlier in the month, Hinson becomes the first Auburn soccer player to be awarded on the national team.
