Auburn Soccer Standout Erin Hinson Named SEC Player of the Week November 3, 2003
Erin Hinson "What a storybook way to end her regular season career, by scoring a goal at Alabama as a senior from Birmingham," head coach Karen Hoppa said. "I am really glad that the SEC has honored her for her accomplishments." Hinson, a Birmingham native and product of Homewood High School, was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week after securing a win for Auburn with a goal against rival Alabama. The goal came with just under 12 minutes remaining defeating the Crimson Tide in a 2-1 Auburn victory. With the win Auburn secured a No. 2 seed in the SEC tournament, just a half game behind SEC champion Tennessee. That came a week after Hinson led the Tigers to a shutout of LSU, which clinched a third straight SEC West title for Auburn. Led by stellar defense all season, the Auburn back line held SEC opponents to only six goals and allowed only 11 for the entire year. No. 11 Auburn will next be in action at the SEC Tournament which will take place from Nov. 6-9 in Orange Beach, Ala.. The No. 2 seeded Tigers are set to play No. 7 Georgia on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 5 p.m. CDT.
