Trio Of Tiger Defenders Named To All-Conference Teams At SEC Soccer Banquet
Nov. 2, 2005 ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - Three Auburn defenders were named to the Southeastern Conference's Soccer All-SEC Teams, it was announced at the 2005 SEC Soccer Tournament Banquet on Wednesday night. Junior Ronda Brooks was named to the first team, senior Ashley Eason was named to the second team and freshman Jenn Johnson was placed on the all-freshman team. Anna Fiser was also recognized as a member of the SEC's Good Works Team for her community service. "These awards are a reflection of how tough and talented our defense was this year," AU Head Coach Karen Hoppa said. "It is very exciting to have Ronda recognized as one of the top defenders in the league and it's great to see Ashley and Jenn get rewarded for all of their work this year. Coach Mott has done a great job of working with the defense and our goalkeepers and backs again this season." Brooks played and started in all 18 regular-season games for the Tigers, logging a team-high 1,704 minutes and scoring three goals and assisting on two others from the back line. This marks the second straight season that Brooks has been named to the first team after being named to the freshman team in her first year on the Plains. Eason, who earned recognition from the other conference coaches for the first time in her career, also played and started in all 18 games this season, posting three assists on the season in 1,691 minutes on the back line. Johnson was the only freshman on the AU squad to start all 18 games for the Tigers. Her regular season totals included a goal in 1,483 minutes, the most minutes of any AU freshman. As a unit the Auburn defense has allowed just 26 goals all season, 14 of which were in league-play. A sophomore goalkeeper, Fiser, who has also played in all 18 games, has been an integral part of her community while at Auburn, volunteering her time at community markets and food pantries. The nutrition major reads to children at the Cary Woods Elementary school every week and has worked at the Red Cross assisting hurricane victims. A native of Jackson, Miss., she was a part of the "Clean Sweep" program which collects toiletries for battered women's shelters. Brooks' selection to the first team marks the sixth consecutive season that the Tigers have placed at least one player on the first team while Eason's inclusion on the second team is the fourth year that AU has had someone on that team. Auburn opens up the 2005 SEC Soccer Tournament on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. CT as the sixth-seeded Tigers take on third-seeded Florida. The game can be heard on WZMG 910 AM in the Auburn-Opelika area as well as on the internet at www.auburntigers.com.
