Auburn Soccer to Meet Georgia in First Round of SEC Tournament November 2, 2003
AUBURN - The No. 11-ranked Auburn soccer team (13-2-3, 6-1-2 SEC) will meet up with Georgia in the first round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament held Nov. 6-9 in Orange Beach, Ala. The No. 2 seeded Tigers are scheduled to meet up with the No. 7 Bulldogs Thursday, Nov. 6 at 5 p.m. CDT in the third game of the day. Auburn fell just a half game behind Tennessee in the hunt for the SEC title, but won the Western Division for the third consecutive season. Auburn is the first team in the West to win three years in a row. The Tigers and Georgia did not meet in the regular season in 2003 and the Bulldogs hold a 5-3 overall advantage against Auburn. The last meeting between the teams was Oct. 6, 2002 when Auburn defeated Georgia 1-0 in Athens. Auburn's only meeting with Georgia in the SEC Tournament was a 3-2 win over the Bulldogs in the first round on Nov. 8, 2001. That season was Auburn's most successful in the tournament as the Tigers moved on to the championship game, falling to Florida 2-1. Entering the tournament, Georgia sits at 11-8 on the season with a 4-5 conference record as the No. 7 seed. The Bulldogs have lost their last two games while the Tigers are on a seven game undefeated streak with one tie included. Auburn's matchup with Georgia will be held at the Orange Beach Soccer Complex in Orange Beach, Ala.
