Tiger Soccer Prepares For Road Match At Georgia And Home Date With Tennessee
Oct. 18, 2006 AUBURN, Ala. - Complete Release in PDF Format
The Auburn soccer team will play its final road contest of the regular season Friday night at Georgia before returning to the Plains for a regionally televised match against Tennessee on Sunday afternoon. Auburn enters the weekend just a single point behind SEC West leader Ole Miss. Combined, the two teams have won the last seven SEC West titles, and with three regular season games remaining for each squad, it looks to be shaping up that way again this season. Auburn's 6 p.m. CT start at Georgia on Friday night will be the first step for the Tigers, who are looking for their first SEC West crown since 2004. "Georgia has had our number the last couple of years. In 2004 we tied them in a game that we were heavily favored in, and it cost us an SEC Championship. Last year we dominated the game and missed a penalty kick. Georgia got one goal on three chances, so we owe them," AU Head Coach Karen Hoppa said. "They are a tough team to play and hopefully we have that fire coming into the game." The Tigers will then return home for a 1 p.m. CT match against No. 16 Tennessee that will be regionally televised on FSN on Sunday. Tennessee has won the last three SEC titles and owns a 5-2 lead in the all-time series against AU, though both of Auburn's victories have come on the Plains. "Tennessee-Auburn has always been a big game and we hope this one carries a lot of weight to it too. They have won the SEC three times in a row and we have been second two of those times, so it has always been a really big game for us," Hoppa said. "We are excited that it is on TV. We know that Tennessee is a tremendously talented squad and hope that a lot is on the line by the time we get on the field." Sunday is Fan Scroll and Family Fun Day. The first 250 fans through the gates will receive an AU fan scroll compliments of Verizon Wireless.
