Auburn Soccer Releases 2005 Schedule
July 25, 2005
AUBURN -- Auburn Soccer and head coach Karen Hoppa have released the 2005 schedule which includes the Auburn/Reebok Classic Sept. 2 and 4 and five home SEC matchups as the Tigers go for their fifth SEC Western Division title.
Along with the second season of an 11-game SEC schedule, the Tigers have a challenging non-conference slate in 2005. Auburn opens up on the road at Rice Aug. 26 and then to powerhouse Texas on Aug. 28. Cal State, Rhode Island and South Carolina make up the field in the Auburn/Reebok Classic Sept. 2-4 when Auburn begins the home season at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
Another tough road trip will follow the tournament as Auburn travels to New Mexico for games with the Lobos on Sept. 9 and Arizona State on Sept. 11. On Sept. 16, the Tigers have their final match vs. Miami at home before league play begins on Sept. 23 at South Carolina.
"Our 2005 schedule is a tough one, Hoppa said. We play some great teams outside the conference. Texas and Arizona State will be exceptionally tough road games. We will also be hosting a tournament for the first time on campus, which will be a great event."
The Tigers will have a tough road schedule in the SEC as they travel to Florida Sept. 25, Ole Miss on Oct. 9, Tennessee on Oct. 21 and at Alabama on Oct. 28.
"The conference schedule this year has us playing the top teams in the league on the road at Florida, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Alabama. I think the SEC will be even stronger as a whole this year and every game is going to be close."
Auburn's home SEC games include Vanderbilt on Sept. 30, Kentucky on Oct. 2, Arkansas on Oct. 14, LSU on Oct. 16 and Georgia on Oct. 23.
